Not all electricians are created equal. Before having any electrical work done in your home or office, make sure you are picking the right company for you.
Here are a few recommendations we have for anyone looking to hire an electrician:
- Check with the Better Business Bureau
- Check NextDoor, Yelp, Google, and other sites for recommendations and reviews
- Make sure that they are licensed and that all licenses are current (in Houston electrical companies are required to have both a Texas Contractor License and a Master Electrician License)
- Check the company’s social media pages and website
Once you have selected a company, call their office and find out about their procedures. Do they offer free quotes? Are their electricians all licensed, and if so, what licenses do they hold? What is their warranty policy? How long have they been in business? Do they have both general liability and worker’s comp insurance?
Don’t feel like you are asking too many questions, or that your questions are baseless. You want to be confident in the work that is being done in your house.
There are many companies out there that are not knowledgeable enough or even qualified to complete electrical projects. At the end of the day, electrical work can be dangerous and you want to make sure that you, your family, and the technician are safe both during the work and long after the job is complete.
